Logistics Specialist / Engineer Summerville, South Carolina

Direct hire Onsite

Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Logistics Specialist / Engineer for a direct hire position for their client in Summerville, SC.

Our client is a global automotive supplier.

In this role, the Logistics Specialist / Engineer will analyze and implement improvement initiatives related to the company supply chain receiving to inbound and manage outbound capacities.

They will design, specifies, and implement material flow and storage improvements based on Lean Manufacturing methodologies and processes to optimize productivity and reduce costs associated with material movements for incoming, in-process, storage, and outbound transportation of materials.

Functions

  • Work to continually improve flow of parts to achieve better cycle times and reduced costs through optimization of material flow with suppliers, partners, and customers
  • Approve and maintain all applicable PFEP data and records in both a database and ERP system
  • Establish, maintain, and communicate material flow specifications
  • Investigate material flow issues and coordinate resolution both internally and externally
  • Coordinate optimized material flow processes with consideration of impact to other departments
  • Develop and maintain KPIs to measure and improve material flow to production and along the external supply chain.
  • Provide cost estimates for material handling activity for new program quotes
  • Support and contribute to lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, Kanban, poka-yoke, Kaizen, visual management, 1-piece flow, etc.
  • Recommend and plan material handling and equipment as appropriate
  • Keep management abreast of progress, developments, and pending issues
  • Ensure maintenance of quality standards in compliance with TS16949
  • Perform special projects as needed
  • Provide training to personnel as needed
  • All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of the company commitment to ISO 14001
  • Deliver work purchases on time to meet customer / internal project milestones.
  • Coordinate selection and design of packaging containers with suppliers, customers, and logistics partners (returnable and expendable)
  • Develop and maintain metrics to measure and improve material flow to production
  • Provide cost estimates for material handling activity for new program quotes

Experience

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and methodologies, material handling, and warehouse equipment and storage techniques
  • Prior experience with the efficient, on-time delivery of raw materials from an off-site warehouse to a production facility
  • Prior experience working with SAP
  • Prior experience in the automotive industry
  • Familiarity with AIAG Standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management / Logistics
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Relatively high level of analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently as well as an integral member of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of MS Office software including Word, Excel, Visio, MS Project
